Tuesdays Pic - Boats

This picture was taken in July this year. These boats were waiting for customers at the small boating lake in the Botanical Gardens, Southport.

Mondays Pic - Flo

I didn't get around to posting a picture yesterday (Sunday), but it's my blog and I can miss a day if I want to! I suppose that technically I didn't post a picture on Monday either as it is now 20 minutes past midnight on Tuesday morning, but until I get out of bed to get the kids off to school it is still Monday.

Went to night school tonight, and as the majority of the class were studying the effects of aperture on the depth of field a couple of us, who are confident in controling depth of field had the studio to ourselves. As there were only two of us, and many photos require two to take (one behind the camera, and one holding a reflector) I brought Flo up out of the car. In many ways Flo is a fantastic model. She sits still for hours, never complains and is not in the least bit bothered about being photographed. On the downside she is difficult to pose, has very artificial looking pale skin and her eyes never show any catch light.

30 images, or lack of!

Well it's now Sunday evening, night school is tomorrow night, and I still haven't come up with any photographs let alone the 30 that I was asked for. Before today the weather has been a bit ropey, but today has been fantastic, yet I'm still totally lacking in inspiration.

I bought myself a flash meter through ebay which arrived yesterday. It may be 20 years old, and slightly cumbersome to use (compared to modern digital meters) but I can't complain for £3.70 (+ p&p). I have also been loaned a mains strobe (flash), umbrella and background by a friend whilst he is away on his holidays. If I can find some inspiration, and a volunteer to model for me, then I may be posting some of the results on my blog soon.

Saturdays Pic - Blue Flower

No idea what this flower is, but I took the picture in a park in South Liverpool (I forget the name of the park).

Thursdays Pic - Tulips

I took this picture back in May this year at Walton Hall Gardens, just outside Warrington. I'm not normally a 'flower person', but there are some really attractive flower gardens especially when I have my 'photography head' on.

Wednesdays Pic - Tall Ships

For now, in the absence of any new images to post, I have decided to look back through previous photos and try and post one image each day with a short description of what, where, how or any other relevent or interesting information. These pictures aren't necessarily going to be my best work, in fact they will almost be a random selection from my hard disk.

This image was taken when the Tall Ships race visited Liverpool recently. Through a friend (thanks John) I was lucky enough to get a Press Pass for the event. Unfortunately when we were allowed access the weather was pretty rough (surprise surprise) and the light was very bland. As a result the images I captured during the press part of the day were quite dull. When we went back later in the day the weather had improved considerabley and I was able to capture far better images. Unfortunately this was also the time when 'ordinary people' were allowed access so getting into position to take photos was far more difficult. The image is obviously of the Brazillian ship (obvious if you know your nation flags that is) which was one of the larger ships in the dock.

Nothing to add

Horrendous weather!

Been unable to get out with my camera, and totally lacking in inspiration for anything indoors. I have been asked, by Ed my nightschool instructor, to come up with 30 images for the next lesson on Monday but I have no idea what, how, when or who.
I'm having some second thoughts with my choice of course now. I am doing a course specializing in Portrait Photography, but I have nobody to photograph. None of my family or friends particularly want to be photographed, the only exception is my 4 year old son Joshua, but I can't use photographs of Joshua every time. I need models, any volunteers?
